Boothbay placed five scoring runners in the top 24 to win the Mt. Valley Conference boys’ cross-country championship Saturday morning at UMA in Augusta.
Boothbay won with 49 points, beating out Winthrop 61, Hall-Dale 79, Lisbon 89, Monmouth 91, Telstar 130 and Wiscasset 167. Hall-Dale’s Wade Davis won in 16:47.
Boothbay’s top four runners had a pack time of 25 seconds. Nate Schwehm led the Seahawks with an eighth place finish in 18:10; Matt Forgues took ninth in 18:12; Chase Brown 12th in 18:27, Wendall Thayer 15th in 18:35, and Tom Brown 24th in 19:26 to complete Boothbay’s scoring five.
Also running for Boothbay were: 39th Ben Gottlieb, 20:33; 43rd Nick James, 20:48; 47th Andy Panagore, 21:42; 52nd Mason Leighton, 22:19; and 57th Drew Schmid, 22:56.
Brad Whitaker was the top runner for Wiscasset with a 21st place finish in 19:09. Jared Snell placed 31st in 19:57; 35. Alex Smelcher, 20:09; 42nd Dustin Dorr, 20:41; 49th Mike McCann, 21:51; 56th Ryan Urguhart, 22:54; 61st Jesse Hilman, 24;13; and 68th Blake Pulmmer, 26:41.
MVC girls’ championship
There were only three full teams competing in the MVC girls’ cross- country championships, won by Lisbon 29. Monmouth scored 33 and Hall-Dale 64. Kerstin Grenier of Monmouth won the race in 21:53. With just two runners, Wiscasset did not have a team score. Crysta Brown placed 18th in 25:38, and Ariel Brown 25th in 28:16.
