Camden Hills defeated Lincoln Academy girls basketball team 63-58 in overtime Friday night in Newcastle. The Windjammers controlled the boards for a 44-24 advantage, led by 6’2″
Rachel Pease with 19 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles got off to a quick start, leading 20-11 at the first quarter break. Camden outscored them 15-6 in the second frame to knot the score at 26-26 at the
half. Lincoln held a slight advantage, 41-39, at the end of three. Lincoln struggled at the foul line (4/10) in the fourth quarter to seal their fate.
Camden scored the first two hoops of the fourth quarter to take the lead. With under a minute to play, Brie Wajer settled two foul shots and Alyx York one to give
the Eagles a one-point lead.
Pease crashed the boards for two with 17 seconds left to put Camden up by one. Wajer went to the line with five seconds left, and made one of two shots to tie the
game and send it into overtime.
Camden scored the first seven points of OT. The Eagles pulled within two with 1:31 to play on a Taylor Oliver 3-pointer. Maddie Bowman settled a foul shot for
Camden, before Wajer scored with 27 seconds left to pull the Eagles within one.
Lincoln was forced to foul, and the Windjammers sank four of six foul shots in the final 26 seconds to pull out the five-point win.
Scoring for Lincoln were Oliver 12, Leslie Sandefur 12 (4R,2A), Wajer 11 (3R,4A), Alyx York 8 (4R,2A), Olivia York 7 (3A,3S), Danielle Pinkham 5 (2A), Brianna
Genthner 2 (2R,3S), and Samantha Burke 1 (2R).
Scoring for Camden were Bowman 18, Pease 14 (19R,2S), Charlotte Messer 11 (4R), Mara Dostie 7 (7R), Eliza Boetsch 6 (7R), Kristen Keiran 5, and Annie Young 2.
