Local and nationally known sports legends and Hall of Famers will be arriving in Boothbay in September to participate in the 22nd annual Boothbay Charities Classic Golf Tournament, lobster bake, and sports auction to be held the Sept. 21-24. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics.
Celebrity athletes that have signed up so far include Oakland Raider and Pro Bowler Otis Sistrunk; Super Bowl champ Earl Morrall from the Colts/Dolphins; Red Sox knuckleball pitcher Wilbur Wood; Dan Sullivan from the Colts; Tom Mack NFL HOF from the Rams; Stump Merrill; Wayne Soares from ESPN/Comedy Network; Dick Lambry fo the Bruins/St. Louis Blues; Tom Yewcic, quarterback and punter for Patriots; Maury Youmans from the Bears; firstt round draft pick Robin Cole of Pittsburg; Ken Hodge, long time Boston Bruins great; two-time Olympic Gold champion Seth Westcott; former Red Sox pitcher Bill Lee; and Garo Yepremian of the Dolphins.
There are still team and individual golfer positions still available for Sat., Sept. 22, which includes guaranteed pairing with a celebrity, a goodie bag, and a seat at Friday night’s lobster bake and sports auction. The silent sports auction will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Fri., Sept. 22 at the Railway Village. Some auction items include autographed footballs by Emmitt Smith, Marshall Faulk and Rob Gronkowski; jerseys of Dennis Eckersley, Steve Young and Cam Neely; and autographed baseballs by Jim Rice, Jim Palmer and Carlton Fisk.
