CLC Y Girls Win Westbrook Tourney

The CLC YMCA Grade 5/6 girls’ travel team, coached by Kevin Feltis, won their third straight tournament of the season, capturing first in the 16 team Westbrook Paper City Classic last weekend.

CLC Y received individual trophies and tournament t-shirts. “It was by far the most impressive and well run tournament we have ever participated in,” Chrissy Wajer commented.

Only man-to-man defense was allowed. A zone defense resulted in a warning then a technical foul. The tournament was a fundraiser for Special Olympics.

CLC won their three game Falcons bracket to advance to the semifinals where they topped Bonney Eagle 34-30 to advance the championship game. CLC Y met up with Greely in the finals, winning 48-26.

Bailey Plourde represented CLC Y in the foul shooting contest, making 13 of 20. Brie Wajer was named MVP of the tournament.

CLC Y 32 – Mt. Valley 29CLC Y nipped Mountain Valley 32-29 in their first game of the tournament on Saturday. Scoring for CLC were Wajer 14, Sophie Schumacher 10, Kaitlyn Feltis 2, Brianna Genthner 2, Kate Westhaver 2 and Bailey Plourde 2. Mt. Valley was led by Liza White with 11. CLC Y 28 – Fryeburg 23The local girls handled Fryeburg in their second game Saturday, 28-23. Scoring for CLC were Genthner 12, Wajer 10, Schumacher 2, Feltis 2 and Westhaver 2. Fryeburg was led by Nicole Bennett 9 and Kerrir Pendergast 8. CLC Y 42 – Gardiner 21CLC Y defeated Gardiner 42-21 in their third game on Saturday to clinch first place in the Falcon bracket and advance to the semifinals. Scoring for CLC were Wajer 13, Schumacher 11, Christine Hilton 6, Genthner 4, Feltis 2, Anna Hatch 2, Plourde 2 and Westhaver 2. Gardiner was led by Leah Weymouth with 15. CLC Y 34 – Bonney Eagle 30CLC Y girls clipped Bonney Eagle in the semi-finals on Sunday to advance to the championship game. Scoring for CLC were Wajer 14, Schumacher 11, Hilton 4, Plourde 3 and Westhaver 2. Bonney Eagle was led by Macie Townsend with 18. CLC Y 48 – Greely 26CLC Y crushed Blue division winner Greely 48-26 in the championship game. Scoring for CLC were Wajer 18, Genthner 12, Schumacher 9, Feltis 4, Plourde 3 and Hilton 2. Greely was led by Molly Chapin with 10.
