Third seed Coastal Christian (6-4) soccer team upset top ranked and undefeated Temple Academy (10-0) Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Field in Portland to bring home their third straight Maine Christian School Sports League State championship.
The CCS soccer program is in its fifth year, and they have made it to the championship game all five years.
Coastal Christian soccer team defeated Windham 5-2 in the semi-finals on Oct. 25 to advance to the championship game. Scoring for the Rams were Joshua Tracey with four goals and Jude Simon one. Sophomore Jesse Delano made 12 saves in net for the Rams. CCS defeated Living Waters Christian School of Buxton in the quarterfinals 14-2.
In Tuesday’s championship game, Temple Academy scored in the first five minutes of the game. Jude Simon tied the game for the Rams with Lucas Robitaille collecting the assist with five minutes left in the game. Joshua Tracey scored the game winner with 43 seconds to play. Jesse Delano had seven saves in net for the Rams. Playing strong for Coastal was junior midfielder Samuel Varga and defenseman, senior Jubal Gilbert.
