Connor Daigle broke the event record while winning the Waldoboro Day 5K on Saturday, June 15 in Waldoboro.
Daigle, a Medomak Valley High School graduate who is on the University of Maine track team, made it three straight Waldoboro Day victories as he completed the 3.1-mile loop through Waldoboro in a record time of 15:55.
“I set my personal record this spring during a University of Maine track meet and have been making a lot of progress recently,” said Daigle, who won the 2021 Maine Class B cross country championship while at Medomak Valley. “I took a bunch of time off from training after the college season ended in May, so I was surprised to post a really good time today.”
On a cool, sunny morning, 47 athletes completed the road race that rambled through the historic Waldoboro village.
“It’s a hard course due to all the steep hills, but this race is a lot of fun,” said Daigle.
