The Dirigo Little League 10-11 baseball All-star team continued its winning ways this week in the State tournament in Cape Elizabeth.
On Saturday, Sawyer Pinkham of Jefferson (eight strikeouts and four hits) collected the win over Bangor-East 12-2. Dirigo banged out 15 hits in the five-inning mercy rule win.
Jake Rideout of Whitefield (three strikeouts, two hits) pitched five innings on Sunday, earning a 6-1 win over Freeport-Pownal. Caleb Cummings of Whitefield had two key doubles to lead the offense.
Then on Monday, Caleb Barden and Devin Scherer of Jefferson (six strikeouts and four hits) combined for a 14-8 win over Waldo County to advance to the State championship game on Thursday. Dirigo has had great pitching and defense as well as timely hitting.
The boys from Lincoln County have been huge in the State tournament. Cummings is five for 11 for a .455 batting average, five runs scored as well as throwing out two would-be base stealers from behind the plate.
Rideout has a win pitching, and went six for 10 at the plate for a .600 average. Pinkham collected a win on the mound as well, played great defense at shortstop and went five for eight with four walks, and a .625 average at the plate. Scherer earned a win pitching and is one for two at the plate.
Dirigo will play either Freeport-Pownal, Waldo County, or Saco for the title on Thursday in Cape Elizabeth and must be defeated twice, as they are the only team left without a loss. Game two, if necessary will be Friday. All games start at 5 p.m.
