Thirty runners braved 20 degree temperatures and a steady wind on Sun., Dec. 17 in the first annual Icy Elf 5K in Waldoboro. Keith Drago, of Rockpost won the race in 19:49. Elizabeth Jones, of New Hampshire, was the first female finisher in 23:20.
Many runners dressed in the spirit of the holidays, including in elf costumes, and Santa hats for a very festive, but chilly 5K.

“Runners in this area are a tough breed, so we weren’t surprised to see them come out in force on one of the coldest days of the year. We were really impressed with their elf costumes. The Best Dressed Elf award was a tough call and we can’t wait to see the costumes they come up with next year,” race organizer Lucas McNelly said.
Tyler Lupien won the elf costume contest with his Buddy the Elf costume.
