Eagle runners win at home
Lincoln Academy boys and girls cross country teams ran to victory at their Homecoming meet on Sept. 23 in Newcastle. With construction on the baseball field, the meet started and finished on the track, and crossed Academy Hill twice. Two Lincoln County Sheriff deputies stopped traffic to assure safe passage.
The Eagles placed seven runners in the top 10 to place first with a near perfect score of 16. Erskine Academy was second with 47, Medomak third with 88 and Oceanside fourth with 101.
Sam Russ dominated the boys race, taking first in 17:42 on the hilly LA course. The next four scoring runners packed it in to take the top four spots and sixth. David Barnum took second in 18:26, followed by 3. Jarrett Gulden, 18:27; 4. Noah Jordan, 18:37; and 5. Levi McAttee, 19:12.
Also running for the LA Eagles were 9. Ian Stapp, 19:36; 10. Taylor Holmes, 19:58; 15. Tommy Thelander, 20:58; 20. Cameron Nelson, 21:56; 25. Aidan Stapp, 22:16; 26. Theo Seidel, 22:38; 27. John Eddyblouin, 23:01; 30. Peter Cooke, 24:08; 31. David Ribeiro, 24:10; 32. Joaquin DiGirolma, 24:20; 36. Sam Richards, 25:07; 38. Samuel True, 25:40; 40. Caeden Bross, 26:07; 45. Minjun Kim, 27:31; 48. Lucas Steinberger, 28:46; and 51. Caleb Armstrong, 31:49.
Medomak Valley placed two runners in the top 12. Isaiah Potter placed 11th in 20:08 and Tyler Bowman 12th in 20:49. Also running for the Panthers were 21. Jonah Marks, 21:56; 39. Drew Bubar, 25:47 and 49. Edwin Stone, 29:18.
Girls results
Lincoln girls won with 19 points, and Erksine took second with 42. Medomak and Oceanside did not have enough runners for a team score.
Lincoln girls had a photo finish between Emma Allen and Tahlia Mullen. Allen emerged from the woods 50 yards ahead of Mullen. Mullen sprinted the final 400 yards to catch Allen at the finish line in a tie in 22:46.
All five scoring runners for Lincoln finished in the top nine. Maddy Archer placed fourth in 23:43, followed by 5. Lucy Williams, 25:00; 7, Jordan Farrin, 25:51; 9. Jenny Arter, 26:28; and 10. Wendy Qin, 29:40.
Medomak had one girls runner, Serena Blasius, who took eighth in 25:56.
