The Lincoln Academy girls lacrosse team continued a hot streak on their home turf with an exciting 9-8 overtime win against Morse on Tuesday, May 7 in Newcastle. Mariam Delisle won the draw control to start the overtime session and raced up the field past two Morse defenders and scored the winning goal just 18 seconds into the extra period. Lincoln Academy improved to 4-3 with the win and leaped into first place in the Class C Heal Points.
The Eagles, who are now 4-0 at home, surged to a 3-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. Morse called a timeout and shortly thereafter rallied to tie the game 3-3 before the end of the first quarter. The Eagles outscored the Shipbuilders 3-2 in the second quarter to take a 6-5 lead into the halftime break. Morse scored three goals in the third quarter and held Lincoln Academy to one to establish an 8-7 Shipbuilders lead heading into the final quarter.
Delisle scored her fourth goal of the game for the Eagles with 9 minutes remaining in the game to tie the match. The defenses and goalies would hold down the fort for the rest of regulation, and the game headed to overtime 8-8 before Delisle’s stunning overtime winner at the start of the extra period. Morse won the ensuing JV game 7-0.
