Lincoln Academy defeated Morse 2-1 in dramatic fashion on Monday, on a walkoff single to Devin Scherer in the eighth inning.
After five scoreless innings, Morse took the lead with a solo homerun to right from the bat of Andrew LaCavera. Lincoln Academy struggled against Shipbuilder hurler Jacob Cressey, who held them scoreless through six innings.
With their backs against the wall in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles rallied to tie the score. Wally Morris hit a lead-off single. Pinch runner Spencer Alden moved over on a Tim Farrar single and Brett Cowan fielder’s choice and was driven home by Brady Leeman on a long fly ball to left that tipped off the outfielder’s glove.
Lincoln scored the game winner in the bottom of the eighth. Sawyer Pinkham hit a lead-off double. Morse brought Dakota Jacobs to the mound, who served up an off speed pitch high in the strike zone. The pitch was in Devin Scherer’s wheelhouse and he delivered the game winning single to right center field, scoring Pinkham.
A.J. Oliver went the distance in the win (11K,5B,3H), and Jacob Cressey (7 2/3I, 3K,1B,5H) took the loss.
The win puts the Eagles into the KVAC championship game, and propels them to number one in West Class B heal points.
Hitting for Lincoln were Pinkham, a double, and Scherer, Morris, Tim Farrar, and Brett Cowan, a single each. Hitting for Morse were LaCavera with a homerun and single, and Ethan Winglass, a single.
Lincoln 1 – Maranacook 0
Lincoln Academy defeated Maranacook 1-0 in an old fashioned pitcher’s duel featuring A.J. Oliver on the mound for the Eagles (2H,10K,1B) and Skylar Webb for the Black Bears (3H,4K,1B).
After five scoreless innings, the Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Sawyer Pinkham singled, moved over on a Devin Scherer single and Oliver fielder’s choice and scored when the Black Bear catcher overthrew his pitcher. Pinkham sped home and slid under the tag for the winning run.
Hitting for Lincoln were Pinkham, Scherer, and Tim Farrar with a single each. Hitting for Maranacook were Jason Brooks and Matt Delmar a single each.
Camden 4 – Lincoln 0
Chandler Crans threw a two hit (8K,1B) shutout to beat the Eagles 4-0. Oliver took the loss (5H,3K,1B). The Windjammers scored all four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on an error and singles to Connor Graffam, John Hall, and Sam Gimiewicz. Also collecting hits for Camden was Aubrey Pennington with two singles.
Hitting for Lincoln were Oliver and Brett Cowan with a single each.
