The Lincoln County Football Eagles defeated the Valley Mustangs 36-20 Nov. 7 to win the Maine Independent Football League championships.
Jordan Labbe put the Mustangs on the boards early in the first half. Isaac Charbonneau tied the score. Trever Coffin scored the Eagles second touchdown to put them ahead 12-6 at the end of one. Dakota Brown blocked a punt on the play, and Coffin pounced on the ball in the Mustangs endzone for the TD.
The Mustangs took advantage of four defensive penalties in the second quarter (including roughing the kicker on a fourth down punt and a late tackle on the quarterback) to knot the score 12-12 on a touchdown from Jake Traylor.
Lincoln recaptured the lead with a few seconds left in the half on a 45 yard run from Charbonneau. Charbonneau made good on the two point conversion to put the Eagles up 20-12 at the half.
Lincoln added third period touchdowns from Austin Gordon (recovered fumble in endzone) and Coffin. Coffin and #27 added two point conversions to give the Eagles a 36-12 lead at the end of three.
The Mustangs forced an Eagle fumble and marched the ball 90 yards down the field in the fourth quarter but wasted to much time off the clock for a comeback. Brian Post scored for Valley
