The Lincoln County Eagles won the Gray New Gloucester YBA Patriot League 7th & 8th grade championship. The Eagles were one of the youngest teams in the league, with four sixth graders (Brie Wajer, Sophie Schumacher, Brianna Genthner, Bailey Plourde), four 7th graders (Olivia York, Alyx York, Lauren Hunt, Isabelle Carlson) and only three 8th graders (Danielle Pinkham, Leslie Sandefur, Taylor Oliver).
The Eagles finished their season with a 12-3 record in the league’s first season. The Patriot League is a new developmental league based in Southern Maine. Trudi Nelson Gillen, a Lincoln Academy graduate and one of the league’s coordinators, said the league has been so successful that eight other teams would like to join, doubling the league’s size to at least 16 teams next year.
The Patriot League playoffs were held over the past two weekends. Results of the playoffs are as follows:
