Top seed Ellsworth defeated fourth seed Medomak Valley 6-0 in a North Class B semi-final match-up on June 8 in Ellsworth. Matt Burnett went the distance in the win, striking out 13, walking none and giving up just two hits. Medomak coach Greg Rice called Burnett one of the best pitchers in the state.
Burnett gave up two first inning singles to Ryan Creamer and Jordan Powell and then pitched a perfect game over the next six innings.
Isaac McCollett took the loss (5I, 6H, 1B, 6K). “He pitched outstanding,” coach Rice said.
Ellsworth scored two runs in the second, two in the fifth and two in the sixth. Hitting for Ellsworth were Jackson Curtis (RBI) and Hunter Curtis with a double and single each, Conner Wagstaff a double (RBI) and Matt Burnett a single.
