The Seahawks baseball team committed seven errors in a 4-2 loss to Dirigo on Friday, May 2 in Thorndike.
Defensive miscues spoiled a strong outing by starting pitcher Liam Jacobs, who struck out 13 batters while hurling all six innings on the mound for the Seahawks. Jacobs gave up just three hits and one walk. Three of the four runs he allowed were unearned due to the errors.
Boothbay jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Dirigo responded with three runs in the bottom of the stanza to take the lead for good.
Seahawks batters tallied six hits in the game but struck out 14 times. Jacobs (1RBI) belted a triple and Casey Phelps (1R) hit a double to lead the Boothbay offense. Sam Markowitz (1SB), Max Cusumano (1R, 1SB), Mason Paquette, and Tyson French (1RBI) each hit a single for the Seahawks in the game.
The Seahawks dropped to 1-4 on the season, while Dirigo improved to 1-2.
Mountain Valley 15 – Boothbay 0
The Boothbay baseball team committed eight errors in a 15-0 loss to Mountain Valley on Wednesday, April 30 in Rumford.
The Falcons scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 15-0 lead. The game was ended due to the mercy rule after Boothbay failed to narrow the margin to under 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Shawn Gamage (1SB) had the only hit in the game for the Seahawks. Max Cusumano walked and stole a base for Boothbay.
Seahawks starting pitcher Aidric Canada took the loss on the mound for Boothbay, allowing eight runs on five hits and five walks in three innings of work. Canada struck out three Falcons, and only four of the runs he gave up were earned due to Seahawks errors.
Gamage relieved Canada in the fourth inning and gave up six runs in one-third of an inning, but none of the runs were earned. Aiden Locke and Andrew Fowlie each hurled one-third of an inning in the fourth after Gamage left the mound.
Mountain Valley pitcher Josh Pollis pitched a complete game shutout for the Falcons and struck out 10 Seahawks while walking just one in five innings on the mound.
