Twelve was the magic number for the Fillies, as they scored 12 runs in both games in a best of three series for the 2011 Waldoboro Little League softball championship Friday night. The Fillies beat the Diamondbacks 12-5 in the first game, and then beat them 12-6 in the championship game.
Gabrielle DePatsy collected the win for the Fillies. Maddy White and Lydia Simmons pitched in the loss.
The Diamondbacks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on runs from Maddy White and Erika Simmons. The Fillies took the lead for good in the home half of the inning with five runs. Cassie Smeltzer, Cassie Wadsworth, DePatsy and Shanae Secotte walked and scored, and Mikayla Brazier and Amber Studley drove in a run each in the rally.
The Diamondbacks pulled within two with a run in the 2nd. Mikayla Wallace singled and scored on a Kathleen Winchenbach sacrifice.
The Fillies added two runs in the 2nd inning on walks to Smeltzer and Sierra Weeks, a passed ball and RBI sacrifice to DePatsy. They added a run in the 4th, when Wadsworth singled and scored on a passed ball.
The Diamondbacks added a run in the 5th inning when Alyssa Blackler walked and was driven home by Simmons.
The Fillies rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 5th. Brazier walked and scored on a Sarah Harvey single. Amber Studley drove in Harvey on an error, Savannah Gilbert sacrificed in Studley, and Smeltzer walked and scored on a passed ball.
The Diamondbacks’ rally fell short in the 6th, with two runs. Lydia Simmons hit a lead off double, and Addie Jameson walked and both scored on passed balls.
