Medomak Valley junior Steven Genthner placed third in the 145-pound weight class, Lincoln Academy junior Derek Juchnik placed third at 135 pounds, and LA senior Jesse Morkeski placed fourth at 189 pounds in the State Class B wrestling championships on Feb. 7 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Genthner pinned Lincoln’s Tucker Phinney in the quarterfinals in the first period. Genthner beat Carey of Mt. Valley by 4-0 decision in the consolation finals for third place.
Juchnik beat his MDI opponent by tech fall in the quarterfinals. Juchnik pinned DiBona of Wells in 1:33 in the consolation finals for third place.
Morkeski lost his quarterfinal match to MCI. Morkeski worked his way through the consolation bracket, losing to Clark of Winslow in the consolation finals for fourth place.
The Maine Principals’ Association did not provide bracket sheets and results of the tournament to coaches after the meet. Coaches were told they would be mailed to them. As of press time, The Lincoln County News has not received any information on the State meet. “I’ve never seen a meet so disorganized,” Lincoln Academy assistant coach Briceson Henny said.
