Medomak Valley’s Steven Genthner won the KVAC 145-lb. title on Saturday and was named the KVAC Class B Most Outstanding Wrestler of the year. Teammate Ben Lufkin (112) was KVAC runner-up and Trever Neilson (171) took third.
Morse coach Shawn Guest, former Wiscasset High School coach, was named KVAC Class B Coach of the Year.
Medomak placed 11th and Lincoln Academy 13th out of 21 teams in the KVAC championship meet held at Cony High School in Augusta. Camden beat out Morse for the Class B championship.
Nikki Leeman (LA 103) drew a bye, was pinned by Newbill (Mt.B), beat Charest (Co) by 15-6 major decision, and was eliminated by Drinkwater (Bel) by 5-1 decision.
Ben Lufkin (MV 112) drew a bye, pinned Vigue (Win) in 29 seconds, then pinned Ancira (Co) in 5:05 to advance to the finals. Lufkin lost a 10-2 major decision to Young (Bel) in the championship round for second place. Harley Benner (LA 112) was pinned by Moore (Mt.B) in 1:41, drew a bye, and lost 12-4 to Vigue (Win).
Cheyene Augustine (MV 119) pinned Cox (Mt.V) in 34 seconds, was pinned by York (EA) in 3:37, drew a bye, then lost to Madore (OH) by 21-4 tech fall. Sarah Alley (LA 119) lost to Gunter (Mt.A) by 20-5 tech fall, drew a bye, and was pinned by Barrett (Mor) in 1:33.
Brendan Mammina (LA 125) pinned Poole (Bel) in 43 seconds, was pinned by Cassidy (CH) in 1:31, pinned Brochu (EA) in 2:14, pinned O’Connor (Win) in 1:57, then was pinned by Duforour (Co) in the consolation semifinals in 56 seconds.
Daniel Meyer (LA 130) was pinned by Fields (CH) in 28 seconds, drew a bye, then was eliminated by Perry (Br) by pin in 1:39.
Derek Juchnik (LA 140) drew a bye, then beat Taylor (EA) by 4-3 decision to advance to the semifinals. Juchnik injured his ankle with six seconds to go in his match with Taylor and was unable to finish the tournament. He has three wins to go to earn his 100th career win. Taylor Olson (MV 140) was pinned by Vannah (OH) in 5:09, pinned Moreau (Mor) in 4:00, then was eliminated by Ouellet (MCI) by pin in 1:15.
Steven Genthner (MV 145) pinned Blanchette (Mt.V) in 1:08, and pinned Tibbetts (MCI) in 22 seconds to advance to the championship round. Genthner then beat Leeman (EA) by 3-0 decision to win the KVAC 145 pound title. Genthner is two wins away from tying Randy Simmons career mark of 108 wins.
Martin Shott (LA-145) was pinned by Rinaldi (Mt.A) in 1:08, drew a bye, then pinned Tibbetts (MCI) in 2:08, before being eliminated by H-Billiat (CH) by pin in 2:38.
Drew Bryant (LA 160) lost a 7-6 decision to Boynton (Bel), drew a bye, then was eliminated by Hamm (OH) by fall in 4:33.
Trever Neilson (MV 171) drew a bye, was pinned by Soucy (Bre) in 5:13, pinned Tantoco (Co) in 2:54, pinned Batty (CH) in 2:14, and pinned Irwin (Ban) in 2:05 to advance to the consolation finals. Neilson then won by forfeit to take third place. Sam Stone (LA 171) was pinned by Soucy in 5:58, drew a bye, and was eliminated by 2-0 decision to F-Brown (Gar).
Roger Guptill (LA 189) pinned Dylan Look (MV) in 3:27, was pinned by Russell (Mor) in 36 seconds, pinned Cummings (OxH) in 30 seconds, pinned Weeman (MCI) in 4:18 to advance to the consolation semifinals. Guptill was pinned by Rinaldi (Mt.A) in 33 seconds. Look drew a bye, beat Kelley (Bel) by 13-9 decision, then was eliminated by Graffam (CH) by fall in 2:54 in the consolation semifinals.
Gabe Delano (MV 215) was pinned by Chase (CH) in 1:50, beat Mardy Alden (LA) by 13-3 decision, and was eliminated by Buker (OxH) by fall in 2:15. Alden lost his first match to Poulin (MCI) by pin in 1:53.
Dalton Peaslee (LA 285) was pinned by Gary (EA) in 1:00, pinned Edwards (OxH) in 3:52, pinned Chesley (Gar) in 2:15, and was eliminated by Nichols (Nok) by fall in 28 seconds.
