Georges Valley Girls Nip Wiscasset 1-0 On Unusual Penalty Kick

Georges Valley 1 – Wiscasset 0Wiscasset freshman goalkeeper Kasey Cromwell stopped everything the Buccaneers served up, except for a freak penalty kick Tuesday night in Wiscasset. Georges Valley’s Kaitlyn Rich made good on the penalty kick five and a half minutes into the game.

The PK was called on a weird play that saw Cromwell dive and make an outstanding catch. Cromwell drew contact from a Buccaneer and hurt her hand on the play, but the whistle did not blow and the clock was not stopped. Everyone on the field stopped playing and a Wiscasset defender picked up the ball in the confusion and was called for a handball in the penalty box.

Cromwell made 21 saves on 22 shots in the loss. Buccaneer keeper Kennadi Grover made two saves.

Aiding Cromwell on the defensive end were Lauren Trudea, Cassandra Tardif, Abby Foster and Maddy Wehrle who made outstanding defensive plays in the second half to keep the Lady Bucs off the boards. Wehrle had two shots in the second half – one stopped by Grover and the other missed wide on a rocket shot on a back pass.St.Dom’s 9 – Wiscasset 0St.Dom’s shutout Wiscasset girls’ soccer 9-0 on Sept 3 in the Lady Redskins Mt.Valley Conference opener. The Saints out shot St.Dom’s 29-4. Scoring for St.Dom’s were Clara Bosco and Kayla McLellan with 3 goals each, and Marley Byrne, Sophie Goulet and Dayle Gordon one each.
