The Lincoln Academy girls lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a hard-fought 7-4 win over Camden Hills on Tuesday, April 29 in Newcastle. Lincoln Academy held a 2-0 lead after the first quarter, and 5-3 at halftime before the Eagles defense clamped down in the second half to secure the win.
Camden Hills scored 13 goals in a game against Mt. Ararat on April 28, but the LA defense contained their star players and controlled the pace of the game to help the Eagles avenge an 11-4 loss to the Windjammers last season.
The field on the campus of Lincoln Academy has become a safe haven for the Eagles, as the home victory was the ninth straight regular season win on their home turf dating back to the start of the 2024 season.
Senior midfielder Mariam DeLisle scored all seven goals for the Eagles, and Lincoln’s stingy defense limited their opponent to six goals or less for the third straight game to begin the season. DeLisle set the all-time points record for Lincoln Academy early in the game, when she scored her first goal to surpass former record-holder Marley LeBel (2023), which put the Eagles up 1-0 and gave her 178 points (goals plus assists) in her career. She ended the match with 184 points, and has 166 goals thus far in her career.
The team stopped the game briefly to collect the ball to have it signed by her teammates as a souvenir to mark the special occasion.
“Mariam is a force on offense, but more importantly, she is one of the best defenders in the state,” said Lincoln Academy head coach Mic LeBel. “The combination of DeLisle, Zofie Day, and Rowan Coffin (is) super fast and athletic at the midfield position and teams just can’t keep pace with them over the course of a game. They hustle to get back to support the defense better than any midfield trio we’ve ever had.”
Day and Coffin each had one assist for Lincoln. Goalie Ciara Stokes made seven saves in net to earn her third straight win.
Leah Zwecker, Lucy Ward, Lila Hall and Lily Stackhouse scored one goal each for the Windjammers (0-2), and Lila Dailey made seven saves in goal.
