Thomaston girls’ basketball team defeated GSB 44-34 to win the Busline League small division championship at Lincoln Academy on Feb. 11.
Shania Creamer gave the Cougars the early lead on a feed from Merissa Look. The Clippers rattled off 10 straight to lead 10-2 at the quarter break. Look cut the lead to five in the second period, before Thomaston scored the final 13 points to take their biggest lead of the ball game at 18 into the half, 25-7. Jennifer Genthner led a come back charge in the third with nine points to cut the lead to 35-22. The Cougars thrice cut the lead to 10 in the fourth, but were not able to overcome the big deficit.
Thomaston dominated the boards, 39-17, in the win.
Scoring for GSB were Look 11 (9R,3S), Genthner 11 (5R), Charlotte Esancy 6 (5R,4S), Creamer 4 (3R) and Danielle Pierce 2. Scoring for Thomaston were Kenadi Grover 29 (13R,3S), Rachel Frye 4 (11R), Lindsay Joyce 4 (9R), Molly Mellor 3, Brianna Bodman 2 and Kaila Gagnon 2.
