Great Salt Bay School girls’ basketball wrapped up a perfect season on Jan. 19 at Medomak Middle School with a 40-23 win over Boothbay to win the Busline League Large School Division A championships.
This group of Lady Cougars (39-0) have gone undefeated for three straight seasons and won three straight Busline League titles.
After winning the championship, they were escorted through town by the Damariscotta and Newcastle fire departments, Damariscotta Police and Lincoln County Sheriff Department.
The Lady Cougars dominated play, scoring the first 11 points of the ball game, on their way to a 17-6 first quarter lead. GSB’s bench saw plenty of playing time over the next three quarters, as the Cougars put it on cruise control and coasted to victory. GSB led 30-8 at the half and 38-11 at the end of three.
Scoring for GSB were Brie Wajer 12 (5R,4S), Sophia Schumacher 8, Bailey Plourde 7, Brianna Genthner 7, Kaitlyn Feltis 2 (10R), Nadia Smith 2 and Mary Reid 2. Christine Hilton had 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Scoring for third seed Boothbay were Nicole Clarke 7 (13R), MacKenzie Abbott 5, Angie Perkins 4 (6R), Colette Bertin 2, Alexis Welch 2 (9R), Cagney O’Brien 2 and Erica Eames 1.
