Harbor Landscape men’s softball team won the Maine E State Slow Pitch Softball Championship on Aug. 15 in Auburn to qualify for the National Tournament to be held at Walt Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.
The team is managed by Jan Martin. The team is centered in Boothbay, with team members from all over Lincoln County and beyond. Team members include Dave Barter, Brian Carver, Scott Corriveau, Kevin Cusson, Jeremy Fleurent, Brian Harvey, Kyle Leavitt, Jan Martin, Erik Matzell, William Moulton, Ryan Poissonier, Shawn Sabine, John Valore, and Dana Waltz.
Harbor Landscape, outscored their opponents 109-45 in the tournament and won eight games and lost one. They defeated Yummies 17-5 in their first game, then lost to Rising Sun 9-6 to drop down to the consolation bracket.
Harbor Landscape worked their way up from the bottom, beating Ames Drywall 8-5, Irish Twin Pub 11-2, Softball Inc. 17-7, Pat’s Pizza 10-5, Danny’s Landscape 12-3, to advance to the consolation finals, where they met up with Rising Sun again. They defeated Rising Sun 17-2 to force a second game for the championship.
Harbor Landscape, playing in their fourth straight game without a break, proved they had the stamina and intestinal fortitude to withstand the heat and humidity, by beating Rising Sun 11-7 for the State title.
Harbor Landscape entered the tournament with a 26-18 (23-12 with teams in same class) record. Team members received numerous awards in the State tournament.
Shawn Sabine was named Tournament MVP; William Moulton was named the tournament’s Outstanding Pitcher; and Kyle Leavitt was named to the All Tournament Team. In addition, the team was named the Best Scoring (12.111) and Best Differential (7.111).
