Jay Tiger Jacob Bessey blocked a Cody Griffin lay-up attempt with three seconds remaining to secure a 57-56 win over Wiscasset on Dec. 10. Wiscasset held a three-point lead with under two minutes to play and looked to stall, before popping a three that failed to find net.
Jay gained possession of the rebound and went into a stall, forcing the Redskins to foul to stop the clock. Wiscasset was unable to score on three possessions, including missing a lay-up and an outside jumper, before Bessey sealed the deal with a big block on Griffin.
Wiscasset jumped out to a 19-12 lead, thanks to 13 1st quarter points from Tyler Sonia. Sonia hit three of his five three-pointers in the frame. The Tigers came roaring back in the second period, scoring 22 points to knot the score at 34-34 at the half.
The Tigers dumped in the first nine points of the 3rd period to take a 43-34 lead. Wiscasset rallied for eight straight points at the end of the quarter to pull within two, 47-45 at the break.
Kyle Storer crashed the glass for two to put Jay up by four, before Griffin and Jordan Jones scored to tie the score in the 4th period. Storer retook the lead for Jay, before Sonia hit a three to give Wiscasset a one-point lead with 4:23 to play.
Austin Clark and Jones traded hoops, before Jay Lamoureux went inside on a Griffin feed to boost Wiscasset’s lead to three. Storer crashed the glass for two, then scored two at the foul line to give the Tigers a one point lead with 1:31 to go. Twice Jay missed the front half of one on ones, giving Wiscasset a chance to win, but the Redskins shooting hands went cold.
Scoring for Wiscasset were Sonia 22, Griffin 9 (5R), Lamoureux 8 (6R), J. Jones 6, Brad Whitaker 3, Devin Grover 3, and Ben Jones 2. Mason Brewer had 8 rebounds.
Scoring for Jay were Clark 23, Storer 15, Jordan DeMillo 11, Jacob Lord 3, James Barker 2, Nate Shink 2, and Jacob Bessey 1.
