Jefferson 3 – Medomak 2Kaylee Abbott scored on the 20th penalty kick on the second series of PK’s to lift Jefferson to a double overtime victory over Medomak Middle School in the Busline League Southern Division championship, held in Jefferson on Oct. 23. With the win, the Chargers advance to the Busline League championship game.
Brooke Benedict converted a pass from Lexi Genthner to give the Riverhawks a 1-0 lead with 12 minutes left in the half. Michaela Peabody evened the score for the Chargers two minutes later on a high lofty shot from the 18-yard mark that drifted into the upper right hand corner. Avery Bond collected the assist on the play.
Medomak retook the lead in the 2nd half when Taylor Mason found net on a feed from Genthner. Jefferson rallied to tie the game and force overtime. Megan Peabody set up the score on a nice cross from the right wing that found Morgan Achorn wide open in the middle. Achorn stopped the shot and calmly put it into the corner to beat Riverhawk keeper Olivia Blachet.
Double overtime was a midfield battle between the two evenly matched teams. Medomak got off two shots, one missing wide and the other stopped by Jefferson keeper Taylor Johnston to force the game’s conclusion by penalty kicks.
Both teams scored two penalty kicks each in the first round of kicks, with Medomak’s Sam Griffin and Brooke Benedict creasing the net for the Riverhawks, and Megan Peabody and Jordan Moore finding net for the Chargers. Medomak’s Blachet put the pressure on early in the second set of kicks, making the initial shot for the Riverhawks.
Jefferson’s first kicker Miranda Achorn made good to even the score. Charger keeper Johnston, stopped Medomak’s next four shots to put her team in a position to win. On the last shot of the second series of PK’s, Kaylee Abbott booted home the winning goal.
Medomak held an 11-10 advantage in shots. Blachet made eight saves for the Riverhawks, and Johnston six saves for the Chargers.
Camden took a 3-0 halftime lead, then added a goal three minutes into the 2nd half to lead 4-0. Jefferson rallied to score two goals to cut the lead to two. Avery Bond converted a pass from Morgan Achorn with 22 minutes remaining. The second goal came on a corner kick from Marissa White. Bond collected the kick and pushed the ball to the left post, where Alyssa Smith was there to knock it in.
Vangel scored two more goals with excellent footwork and speed to boost Camden’s tally to six.
Camden held a 19-8 advantage in shots. Taylor Johnston made 13 saves for the Chargers. Erin Doran made four saves for Camden.
St. George 2 – Bristol 0
Bristol took on No. 1 St. George on Tues., Oct. 20 and lost a close game, 2-0. St. George’s goalie was outstanding, stopping many quality shots that prevented Bristol from scoring. Blue Devil goalie, Brandon Salerno was outstanding as well.
Wiscasset 1 – Jefferson 0
Wiscasset held a 23-2 advantage in shots. Dylan McMahon made one save in net for Wiscasset, and that was on a breakaway shot from Michael Robertson with 18 minutes to play in the 2nd half.
Championship game
The Busline League boys’ soccer championship game has been postponed due to a flu outbreak at Wiscasset Middle School. No date has been set for the make-up.
