It took two days, but Jefferson Village School’s softball team defeated Richmond 5-4 for the Busline League Southern Division championship on June 10 at Great Salt Bay School. The game started Thursday and went four plus innings, before a thunderstorm ended it abruptly. On Friday, the game started again from scratch.
Abby Farrin collected the win (11K, 6H, 1B, 2HP) in a pitcher’s duel with Richmond’s Martin (9H).
Undefeated Jefferson took a 1-0 lead in the home half of the 1st on a single to Avery Bond and RBI double to Farrin. Richmond tied the score in the 2nd when Martin reached on an error and scored on a passed ball. Richmond added a run in the 3rd on an RBI single to Patterson; one in the 4th on a triple to Reis and RBI error to Harriman; and one in the 5th scored by Martin, to take a 4-1 lead.
Jefferson rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game. Michaela Sprague walked, and scored on a Morgan Achorn sacrifice fly. Bond singled and scored on a Miranda Achorn single. Farrin followed with an RBI single.
Farrin shut Richmond down over the next two innings, including striking out the side in the 6th inning. Morgan Achorn hit a two out single, stole second and came home on a passed ball for the winning run in the bottom of the 6th.
Hitting for Jefferson were Farrin with a double and single, Bond and Miranda Achorn 2 singles each, and Morgan Achorn, Andrea Call and Lillian Bisset a single each. Hitting for Richmond were Obi with a double and single, Patterson 2 singles, Reis a triple and Martin a single.
