Jefferson won their third straight Dirigo Little League championship on Saturday in Vassalboro. Jefferson lost the first game in the best of three championship series, then won the next two games to win the league title.
Jefferson took the lead in the 1st inning when Chad Carter doubled and scored on a Sawyer Pinkham triple. Pinkham scored on a single from Robbie Clark.
Vassalboro scored three runs on three Jefferson errors in the bottom of the 1st inning to take the lead for good. Pitching and defense was near perfect over the next five innings allowing no more runs from either team
Hitting for Jefferson were Pinkham with a triple and single, Clark two singles, Carter a double, and Hunter Williams a single.
Jefferson took the lead in the 2nd inning when Clark reached on an error, moved to second on a Williams walk and scored on a John Henry single. Vassalboro tied the score in the top of the 3rd inning.
Jefferson’s bats came to life in the home half of the inning. Pinkham led off with a double and Scherer walked to set up a three run homerun to Clark. Williams singled and scored on a Dennis Milliken fielder’s choice.
In the fourth Scherer walked, Clark singled and both scored on a Williams’ double. Stephen Perry led off the 5th with a walk and scored on a Pinkham double. Pinkham then scored on a single to Scherer.
Hitting for Jefferson were Pinkham with two doubles and a single, Clark a homerun and single, Williams a double, and Carter, Scherer, and Henry a single each.
Jefferson took the lead in the top of the 1st. Bryant York drew a walk, Pinkham doubled, and both scored on a Scherer double.
Vassalboro came back in the bottom half of the 1st scoring four runs. Jefferson pulled to within one in the top of the 3rd when York singled, moved to second on a Pinkham single and scored on a Scherer single.
Vassalboro scored one run in the bottom of the 3rd and had the bases loaded with two outs when York made a diving catch to end the threat. In the fourth, Jefferson came roaring back. Henry led off with a single, Carter walked, and York singled to set up a two run double to Pinkham. After an intentional walk to Scherer, Clark singled home York and Pinkham. Hunter Williams drove home Scherer with a single and Clark scored on an error.
The defense then took over. Great plays by York and Henry kept Jefferson in the lead. Williams came in and secured the final out snaring a line drive back to the mound.
