Lincoln Academy senior Dalton Kinney will be traveling to Idaho in February to represent Maine in the Special Olympic World Winter Games in snowshoeing.
He has competed in snowshoeing for four years, winning three gold medals in the 50 and 100-yard events, which qualified him to compete on the world stage.
On Dec. 2, he will participate in a one-week training event in Colarado. I’m really excited about it,” Kinney said.
Part of the training camp in Colorado, is for Kinney to get used to new people. He will travel solo to the training camp to prepare for the two week World Winter Games. Kinney has been training since last April. Part of his training is to give up Mt. Dew and other caffeinated beverages to help prevent altitude sickness. What he is most looking forward to is “meeting new people, and if I’m lucky get interviewed on TV.”
He is the son of Sherrie Leverton of Nobleboro, and Vaughan Kinney of Warren.
