Lincoln Academy boys cross country team ran away from the competition in their opening meet on the hilly Maranacook course on Sept. 1. The Eagles placed five scoring runners in the top nine to score 30 points in the win. Maranacook took second with 53 points, followed by Waterville 81, Leavitt 100, Oxford Hills 111, Monmouth 130 and Lisbon 202.
“It was a great start to the season for Lincoln. Nearly everyone who ran this race last year improved their times and we had solid performances from our newcomers as well. This is one of the toughest courses we run on all year, so we look forward to faster times ahead,” coach Garrett Martin said.
Waterville’s Nick Dall was the race winner in 17:51 out of a field of 84 runners.
Sam Russ paced the Eagles, placing third in 18:23. Packing it in to complete the scoring five were 5. David Barnum, 18:48; 6. Jarrett Gulden, 19:01; 7. Benji Pugh, 19:15; and 9. Jojo Martin, 19:51.
Placing in the top 15 were 12. Tommy Thelander in 20:03 and 15. Levi McAtee in 20:04. Also running for Lincoln were 26. Braxton Farrin, 21:02; 28. Ezra Smith, 21:11; 29. Taylor Holmes, 21:13; 34. Girls results
Lincoln Academy girls cross country team placed second with 66 points, behind Maranacook with 20. The Lady Black Bears packed in five scoring runners in the top 11. Monmouth placed third with 92 points, followed byWaterville 93, Oxford Hills 121, and Winthrop 133.
Maranacook’s Molly McGrail won the race in 21:48.
Emma Allen was the top Lady Eagles, placing sixth in 23:54. Completing the scoring five were 10. Ella Villeneuve, 24:27; 13. Grace Wehrle, 24:42; 16. Tahlia Mullen, 25:25; and 24. Caitlin Cass, 26:19. Also running for Lincoln were 32. Harmony Ingham, 27:38; 35. Olivia Richmond, 28:06; and 39. Phoebe Pugh, 28:45.
