Mark Hanley Construction, of Bristol, has been awarded the bid for the contract to build the new Lincoln Academy baseball field. The field will be built on the footprint of the field hockey and girls lacrosse field.
During Homecoming Weekend in September school officials announced an anonymous donor gave $500,000 to the school to build a new baseball field and upgrade the softball field.
Some trees were removed from the site last week, and heavy equipment rolled in this week in a race against the weather. LA Athletic Director K.J. Anastasio said he hoped the baseball team would be able to play some of their games in the 2016 season on the new field.
The possibility of that happening hinges on the weather, both late this fall and in the spring, he said.
