LA Coastal Hoops Undergrads Runners-Up In Kennebec Valley YMCA girls’ Tourney

The LA Coastal Hoops Undergrad girls’ basketball team played seven games in seven days, including playing in two tournaments last week. The Lady Eagles’ record is 6-3.

Coastal 39 – Richmond 32Coastal Hoops topped Richmond on March 10 at the CLC YMCA. Scoring for LA were Katherine Bolster 12, Laura Soohey 11, Marni Jones 5, Kelsey Schwarz 4, Kelsey Peaslee 3, Merissa Look 2, and Jen Genthner 2.

“Katherine Bolster made a nice defensive effort, scoring lots of points off steals, and Laura Soohey did a nice job on the boards,” coach Tim Feltis said. Richmond was led by Plummer with 15.Coastal 40 – Mt. Abram 29Coastal Hoops topped Mt. Abram 40-29 in their semi-final game of the KV YMCA tourney. “Kelsey Schwarz hit two big 3-pointers back-to-back which helped ignite us and get us into the finals,” Feltis said. Scoring for Coastal were Bolster 11, Schwarz 10, Soohey 8, Anna Budrow 5, Jones 3, and Genthner 3. Mt. Abram was led by Lindsey Bean with 9.Gardiner 49 – Coastal 31Gardiner out scored LA 17-8 in the 4th quarter to pull out an 18-point victory in the KV YMCA tournament on Saturday. Scoring for LA were Budrow 10, Soohey 5, Look 5, Bolster 4, Jones 3, Schwarz 2 and Genthner 2. Scoring for Gardiner were Pelletier 20, Moore 10, McCallister 7, Moody 4, Granholm 4, and Lelly 4.Jay 33 – Coastal 27Coastal Hoops traveled from Augusta to Waterville on Saturday to compete in a tournament at Thomas College. They lost their first game to Jay, 33-27. Scoring for Lincoln were Bolster 6, Budrow 6, Schwarz 6, Jones 5, Soohey 2, and Genthner 2. Jay was led by DiPomp 11 and Blodgett 11.Coastal 59 – MDI 39Coastal ended the Thomas College tournament on a high note, crushing MDI by 20. Scoring for Coastal were Jones 18, Soohey 13, Bolster 9, Genthner 8, Lindsey Crider 6, and Look 5. MDI was led by White with 14.

“All in all, the week went pretty well. Eighth grader Jen Genthner played up and scored in every game but one. With Jen adding points, it has been great to back up Laura [Soohey]. Eighth graders Megan Krah, Danielle Pierce and Colleen Trayers played up as well. They were a little intimidated at first, but made adjustments and were able to focus. Overall the girls have put forth a huge effort to play better as a team,” Feltis said.
