For the past 15 years, the Lady Black Bears of Maranacook have had Lincoln Academy’s number, including winning many games by one run. The last time the Lady Eagles beat the Bears was in 1995, when both teams played in the Mid-Maine Conference. Lincoln broke the curse on April 30 with a 5-4 win at Maranacook.
Amelia Pennington collected the win (9K,1B,6H), and Sarah Maxwell took the loss (6K,8H,2B).
Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. Katherine Bolster reached on a dropped third strike, moved over on a Kassie Lincoln bunt and scored on a Pennington single. They added two runs in the 2nd.
Marni Jones reached on an error, Kiana Santos “hit a great bunt” for a single and both moved over on an Anna Budrow ground out. Bolster sacrificed on Jones and Santos scored on a passed ball. Lincoln took a 4-0 lead in the top of the 4th with one run. Santos walked and scored on a Budrow double.
Maranacook scored three in the bottom of the 4th to pull within one on a two-run single from Ouellette and an RBI single from Cochran.
Lincoln plated the winning run in the 5th on a Pennington double and Stephanie Oliver RBI single. The Bears cut the lead to one in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI single from Shaw.
Hitting for the Eagles were Pennington with double and two singles, Laura Soohey a double and single, Budrow a double and Oliver and Santos a single each. Hitting for Maranacook were Ouellette with three, Dorr two and Cochran one, all singles.
Lincoln scored two runs in the 1st inning when Katherine Bolster walked, Soohey reached on an error and both scored on passed balls. They broke the game open with an eight run 3rd inning.
Kassie Lincoln reached on an error and scored on a Pennington double. Soohey hit an RBI error, Oliver an RBI double, Olivia Osbourne reached on an error, Morgan Scavetta and Jones walked, Budrow drove in a run on a ground out, and Bolster, Lincoln and Pennington walked in a run each.
Lincoln added three runs in the 4th when Oliver, Osbourne and Scavetta reached on errors and scored to win by mercy ruling.
Hitting for the Eagles were Oliver and Pennington with a double each and Soohey and Bolster a single each.
Hall collected the win for the Raiders (9K,0B,2H). The Raiders had no errors.
Laura Soohey had both hits for the Eagles, including a double. Hitting for Oak Hill were Hall and Goulet with two singles each, and Belaine, Wood and Rouleua a single each.
