Lincoln Academy girls’ soccer coach John Schumacher couldn’t be prouder of his Lady Eagles. They made the playoffs, beat Oak Hill in the West B preliminaries to advance to the quarterfinals against the number one seeded York.
“It was a tough loss,” Schumacher said. “We played with a lot of heart and a lot of get up. I couldn’t be happier. They are a really good team. I had a lot of fun with them this season.”
The Lady Eagles played hard to the end, but could not compete against powerhouse York, falling 6-1 on Oct. 29. York’s first goal went off a LA defender on a corner kick. Kaylan Weston was credited with the goal with 32:41 to go in the half. Chelsea Tewell assisted on the next two goals by Emma Clark and Emily Boone to put York up 3-0.
The Eagles got on the boards on a breakaway goal from Brooke Cheney. “She took it down and had a nice blast. She was focused and just buried it in the back of the net,” Schumacher said.
York added another first half goal from Ashley Taylor with 37 seconds to play, they added two second half goals from Tewell and Lindsay Weigeis, with Tewell picking up her third assist of the night.
York held a 18-7 advantage in shots. Emma Lazarri (sat out 15 minutes after getting hit in the head) and Christina Tonry combined for 12 saves for the Eagles.
