Medomak Valley girls’ soccer coach Owen Campbell resigned after the completion of the fall season. Her shoes will be hard to fill, as she accumulated a 23 win 5 loss record over her two year tenure as head coach of the Lady Panthers.
Her reasons are simple, Campbell said. Her twin daughters will be old enough to play junior high sports next year, and she would like to be there for them; to drive them to practices and to watch them play.
“It would be difficult to do, to transport them and watch them play and run my own practice,” Campbell said. “My husband is the athletic director at Morse, so he cannot help. It is difficult as a woman to coach and be a mom.”
“They have never known anything else. They grew up on the bus, in car seats. They have always taken a back seat. I have coached soccer or softball or both for the past 10 years. This will be the first time they are at the front.”
When asked if she would come back to coaching when the girls got older, Campbell responded, “That is still up in the air. If I coach again, I would like to be at Medomak.”
