Medomak Valley girls’ basketball team picked up wins over Maranacook, MCI and Waterville this week to extend their unbeaten streak to 10-0. A stingy defense continues to be the Lady Panthers’ winning mantra as they continue to dominate KVAC action.
Medomak will play the most challenging part of their season in the upcoming week, as they take on 7-2 Winslow on Jan. 14, 8-2 Nokomis on Jan. 18, and undefeated Leavitt (10-0) on Jan. 21.
Scoring for MVHS were Lindsay Ranquist with 18, Mallory Conary 10, Alanna Vose 9, Nicole Weaver 8, Kasey Benner 6, Ericka Christensen 6, Roxanne Jelenfy 4. Scoring for Waterville were Karter 10, Gagnon 4, Gardiner 3 and Crane 1.
“When you come into a game 7-0 and in first place in the heal points, you get everyone’s best effort, and that was certainly the case last night. Never the less, any win on the road is a good win,” coach Randy Hooper said.
Medomak jumped out to a 15-6 first quarter lead, sparked by 7 points from Alanna Vose. The Bears cut the lead to seven at the half. The Panthers netted 17 points in the third period to take a 40-29 lead into the final quarter then coasted to a 10-point victory.
Medomak sank 8 of 11 free throws (all in the second half), led by Ericka Christensen (5 for 6) and Lindsay Ranquist (2 for 2).
Scoring for the Panthers were Christensen 19, Ranquist 8, Alanna Vose 7, Nicole Weaver 5, Kasey Benner 4, Ashley Rackliff 3 and Vanessa Davis 2. Scoring for the Bears were Hannah Clough 12, Hannah Cumler 10, Jessie Smith 5, Katie Poulin 2, Kristina Kelly 2 and Kate Dore 1.
