Medomak Valley girls’ basketball team opened their 2010-11 KVAC season with a pair of wins. The Panthers defeated Gardiner 53-29 in their home opener Friday night, then beat Rockland on the road Tuesday 68-31.
The Tigers out scored the Panthers 16-12 in the second frame to pull within 12 at the half. Medomak held Rockland to 10 points in the second half, while pumping in 35 to win by a landslide.
Scoring for Medomak were Ericka Christensen 16, Nicole Weaver 13, Mallory Conary 10, Vanessa Davis 8, Lindsay Ranquist 5, Roxanne Jelenfy 4, Kasey Benner 4, Mallory Robbins 3, Alanna Vose 3 and Ashley Rackliff 2. Scoring for Rockland were Hannah Plourde 11, Brooke Dugan 8, Emma Spencer 5, Danica Hooper 3, Emma Davis 2 and Hanna Lacasse 2.
Medomak Valley girls’ basketball opened their KVAC season with a 53-29 win over Gardiner in Waldoboro Dec. 10. The Tigers stayed with the Panthers in first-half action, before Medomak put the game away in the second half, holding Gardiner to just eight points in the half. The Lady Panthers led 10-8, 25-21, and 35-26 at the quarter breaks.
“We just stepped up our defense a little bit. We cut down on turnovers. It was just good rebounding and good defense,” returning coach Randy Hooper commented on the second half.
Scoring for Medomak were Ericka Christensen 12, Alanna Vose 11 (5A), Nicole Weaver 10 (2-3’s), Lindsay Ranquist 8 (12R), Kasey Benner 4, Vanessa Davis 2, Mallory Conary 2, Roxanne Jelenfy 2, and Kelly Leidenroth 2.
Scoring for Gardiner were Jenna Moore 13, Carley Pelletier 6, Tricia Pzikas 4, Paige Pillsbury 3, Liz Kelley 2, and Kylee Granholm 1.
