Alanna Vose sank a foul shot with three tenths of a second to go to lift Medomak Valley girls’ basketball team to a 40-39 win over Winslow on Jan. 14. The win improves the Lady Panthers record to 11-0.
The two team battled back and forth in the first quarter with seven lead changes and two ties, before Vose scored on a Nicole Weaver feed with 12 seconds to go to give Medomak a 12-10 lead at the end of one. Medomak held the lead the entire second and third quarters, leading 24-16 at the half and 31-25 at the end of three.
Vose gave the Panthers an eight-point lead in the fourth on an Ashley Rackliff feed. Mariah Chenard cut the lead to six, before Lindsay Ranquist boosted the lead back to eight with 2:35 to go.
The Raiders rattled off six straight to pull within two with a minute to play. Ranquist hit a pair at the line to put Medomak up by four. Lynsey Vigue hit a big three-pointer with 44 seconds to play to cut the lead to one. Vose scored a pair at the line with 21 seconds left to boost the Panthers lead to three. Chenard connected on another big three to knot the score with seven seconds remaining.
Medomak in-bounded the ball and Vose took off for the basket, driving the lane and drawing a foul with .3 seconds left. Vose missed the first shot, but made the second to give her Panthers a one point win.
Scoring for Medomak were Vose 14 (3R,7S), Ranquist 13 (7R,3S,2A), Ericka Christensen 5 (5R,4S), Nicole Weaver 4 (3R), Mallory Conary 2 (4R,3S), and Mallory Robbins 2. Scoring for Winslow were Chenard 17 (4-3’s), Alliyah Veilleux 10 (2R,3S), Elizabeth Ferry 6 (9R,3S), Kelsea Bouchard 4 and Jordan Pomerleau 2.
