Medomak Valley girls’ basketball picked up wins over Camden and Oak Hill this week to improve their record to 13-4. The Lady Panthers’ KVAC season finale is at Lincoln Academy on Feb. 4.
The rough game saw several Panthers leave the game after getting knocked to the floor. Lacy Massengale did not reenter the game after crashing to the floor in the 3rd period with an ankle injury.
Medomak extended their lead to seven in the 3rd, before the Raiders rallied to pull within one. The Panthers answered the threat with a run of seven points, including sinking five of five free throws. Medomak went into the final period with a 30-21 lead, then scored the first six points of the 4th on two hoops from Ericka Christensen and a basket from Alanna Vose to open up a 15-point lead. Oak Hill cut the lead to nine, before Medomak gathered another run of seven late in the game saw to boost their lead to 16.
Scoring for Medomak were Vose 18, Christensen 13, Lindsay Ranquist 8, Danielle Dyer 7 and Kelsi Severson 1. Scoring for Oak Hill were Maggie Sabine 12, Abby Goulet 6, Jess Roberts 5, Becca Lahoytay 5, Chassidy Hilchey 4 and Marissa Caskin 3.
“We played a little bit more experienced down the stretch than they did. We caught them off guard,” coach Randy Hooper said.
Camden led 9-7 at the quarter, 20-17 at the half and 35-29 at the end of three.
Scoring for Medomak were Massengale with a career high 15 points, Lindsay Ranquist 10, Christensen 9, Danielle Dyer 8, Alanna Vose 8 and Nicole Weaver 1. Scoring for Camden were Jordan Knowlton 12, Gab Duke 7, Maci Heal 7, Jackay Richards 5, Kara LeGage 3, Kyllie Carlesen 3 and Hayley Buckheit 2.
