Kayla Santheson (8K,0B,1HP) threw a two hit shutout to lead the Panthers to a 2-0 victory over Lincoln Academy on May 28 in Waldoboro. The win avenged a loss to the Lady Eagles earlier in the season. Both teams are 12-3, with one game remaining.
Amelia Pennington took the loss for Lincoln (1K,0B,7H).
Medomak scored one run in the 3rd inning. Alanna Vose singled and scored on a Mallory Conary single. The Lady Panthers added a run in the 6th inning when Heidi Obuchon singled and scored on a Kasey Benner sacrifice fly. Eagle Kassie Lincoln made a superb catch in shallow center field to rob Benner of hit, and Obuchon scored on the play.
In other big defensive plays, Pennington and LA catcher Stephanie Oliver threw out base runners at third, and first baseman Laura Soohey completed a double play to the plate to cut down another Medomak base runner. On Medomak’s defensive side, catcher Benner made a great catch on pop fly and the Panthers played nearly errorless ball with just one miscue.
Hitting for Medomak were Jessica Koon with 2 and Obuchon, Santheson, Conary, and Vose one each. Pennington and Anna Budrow picked up a single each for Lincoln.
Rockland scored their lone run in the top of the 1st inning to take the lead. Medomak exploded for seven runs in the home half of the inning to put the game out of reach of the Tigers. Vanessa Davis walked, Heidi Obuchon singled and Santheson walked to load the bases for an RBI walk to Kasey Benner, and three run double to Lindsey Ranquist. Mallory Conary and Alanna Vose reached on errors. Jenna Tracy, Davis and Santheson walked in a run each.
Medomak added seven runs in the 3rd inning. Amanda Hendrickson singled, Davis walked, Obuchon hit an RBI single, Santheson a two run single, K. Benner walked, Ranquist hit an RBI single, Maria Ennamorati, Tracy and Vose walked in a run each, and Obuchon hit an RBI single in the rally.
Hitting for Medomak were Obuchon with three, Ranquist a double and single, and Santheson and Hendrickson a single each. Hitting for Rockland were Proctor and Davis with a single each.
Lincoln Academy took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Laura Soohey walked, advanced on a ground out and scored on an Olivia Osbourne single.
Camden tied the game in the top of the 4th when Hamalainene singled and scored on an Eaton double.
Lincoln retook the lead for good in the home half of the 4th. Soohey reached on an error, moved over on an Anna Budrow sacrifice bunt and scored on an Osbourne fielder’s choice. They added a run in the 5th when Stephanie Oliver reached on a double, moved to third on a Kianna Santos double and scored on a Kassie Lincoln fielder’s choice.
Hitting for the Eagles were Osbourne, Katherine Bolster, Soohey and Santos with a single each. Hitting for Camden were Hamalainene, White and Steele with a single each and Eaton a double.
Rockland put the pressure on the Eagles early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on a Russeau RBI single scoring Proctor. Lincoln tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd when Budrow walked and scored on a Marni Jones ground out.
The Tigers retook the lead with two runs in the 3rd. Plourde and Gustin singled to set up an RBI double to Russeau. Gustin came home on a throwing error.
Lincoln rallied for three runs and the win in the 5th inning. Shania Creamer was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a Santos bunt and scored on a Bolster single. Pennington sacrificed in a run. Bolster scored the winning run on a first and third situation, when K. Lincoln walked and drew the throw.
Hitting for Lincoln were Pennington with 2 doubles, and Bolster and Budrow a single each. Hitting for Rockland were Russeau with a double and single, Proctor and Gustin 2 singles each and Plourde and Lacasse one each.
After five scoreless innings, Gardiner took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 6th on an Abbott triple and Griffin single. Lincoln rallied in the home half of the inning for four runs. Pennington hit a lead off single, Soohey singled and both came home when freshman pinch hitter Shania Creamer hit a double.
“It was a huge hit,” coach Katie Mainville said. Morgan Scavetta followed with a two run single.
Pennington collected the win (4K,3H,0B), and Moody took the loss.
