The Damariscotta American Legions defeated Nobleboro Village Store 4-1 on Saturday to win the Lincoln Little League baseball championship.
The two teams battled through four scoreless innings, before the Legions took advantage of four walks and a single to score four runs. Baker Gove collected the win in one and two thirds innings of relief work (3B, 2H, 1K) for starter Travis Creamer (0R, 12K, 4H, 1B) who left the game after reaching the maximum pitch count.
Both teams were 11-1 going into the championship game, having split during the regular season.
Gove led off the 5th inning for the Legions with a single, and Creamer was intentionally walked. Parker White drew a walk to load up the bases for an RBI walk to Griffin Dodge. Creamer came home on a wild pitch. White came home on a throwing error that saw Dodge and Cody Tozier both race to third in opposite directions. Colton Spear ran down Tozier breaking back to second, while Dodge scored on the rundown.
Nobleboro loaded up the bases in the top of the 6th, but were only able to get one run back. Jonah Cameron reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a Nick Morton single.
Hitting for the Legions were Gove with two singles, and Creamer a double. Spear took the loss (3H, 4B, 1HP, 10K) and Kobe Lincoln pitched two thirds of an inning (1B, 1K) in relief.
Hitting for Village Store were Brady Leeman, Ben Andrews and Spear with two singles each, and Nick Morton and Lincoln one single each.
