Wrestlers and fans packed the Warsaw Middle School gymnasium in Pittsfield on Saturday for the Pine Tree Wrestling Leagues East Regional championships. Bucksport was the East winner. Medomak Middle School placed seventh with four wrestlers placing in the top four to qualify for the Pine Tree State Championships.
Branson Lessard (190) was crowned East Regional Champ, Owen Gilbert placed second at 145; Travis Reed was third at 240, and Joseph Taylor was fourth at 210.
Six wrestlers placed fifth and are alternates for the state meet, which will be held at the Medomak Valley High School on Sat., March 26 starting at 9 a.m.
Steven Thompson (82) lost a tough 11-16 decision to Hunter Bubar (Nok), pinned Bronson Pratt (Her), and lost to Joshua Wright (El), to place fifth and be an alternate at the Pine Tree States.
Rayanne Leach (89) lost a 2-6 decision to John Golgano (Bel), pinned Mark Tocco (CR), and lost a 3-8 decision to Zachary Collins (HAL). Leach placed fifth and is an alternate for States.
Korbin Daniels (103) pinned Zach Sheafe (Bel) in the second period, was pinned by Matt Stewart (Buc), and lost a 7-2 decision to Zachary Annis. Daniels placed fifth and is an alternate for States.
Deagan Poland (110) lost to Julian Abaldo (Roc) in the pigtails. Chase Flaherty (St. George independent wrestling with Medomak) lost a 4-1 decision to Troy Reynolds (Sea), pinned Abaldo, and lost a 1-9 decision to Tyler Pye (Buc).
Madison Brown (117) lost to Jacob Waterman by fall, beat Josh Hall (Buc) by 13-4 decision, and was pinned by Julian Sirois to take fifth place. Brown is an alternate at States.
Cameron Robinson (131) was pinned by Joe Wright (El), and by Michael Maybury (Br).
Owen Gilbert (145) pinned Nate Garland (EL), then beat Corey Eaton (Br) to advance to the championship round. Gilbert lost to Jared Gilbert (HAL) to take second place.
Will Greenrose (155) was pinned by Kelcin Dullas (Her), won by forfeit, and lost to John Capella (Bel) to place fifth. He is an alternate for States.
Tristen Witcomb (170) lost by injury default and is an alternate for States.
Brandon Lessard (190) pinned Alton Urquhart (Her) and pinned Dakota Walker (Bel) to advance to the finals. Lessard beat Derek Look (El) by a 9-7 decision to win his weight division.
Joseph Taylor (210) drew a bye, was pinned by Colt Muir (HAL), and lost to Edwin Johnson (Bel) to take fourth place.
Travis Reed (240) drew a bye, lost to KP Hilaire (Buc) by 7-2 decision, and pinned Nate Dunton (CR) to advance to the consolation finals Reed pinned Mason Bridges (El) to take third.
