Lincoln Academy’s golf team placed fifth at the KVAC state qualifier at Natanis on Tuesday to clinch the final berth at the State Class B championships. Three Eagles also qualified for the State Class B Individual championships. The team championships will be held on Oct. 10, and the Individual state championships on Oct. 17 at Natanis in Vassalboro.
Kelsey Leeman shot an 18 hole round of 97 to qualify for the girls’ tournament, and Stephen Quinlan (83) and Alex Cosgrove (86) qualified for the boys’ individual tournament. The cut off was 86 for boys.
Originally only four KVAC Class B teams were going to qualify for states, but Mt.Valley came down to compete at the KVAC qualifier, opening up a fifth spot. Waterville and Camden tied for first, and Leavitt, Belfast and Lincoln moved on to states as well. Medomak Valley placed eighth and did not qualify.
Lincoln shot a team round of 359 on the Arrowhead course to take fifth. The low four scores were added together for the team score. Quinlan, Cosgrove, Jalen Lincoln (92) and Alex Graves (98) were the low for the Eagles. Cody Graves shot 100 and Casey Poland 103.
In JV action, Casey Poland (55) beat Zak Holcran (59); Kelsey Leeman (51) topped Dan Muther (69); Tara Gaunt (73) beat Owen Feener (88); and Luke Bibber defeated Montana Maynard (92).
