Lincoln Academy baseball won the battle with county rivals Medomak Valley on May 22 in Newcastle, 5-2. Brandon Reilly (6I,8K,2B,5H) collected the win and Ben McLain (1I,1K,1B,0H) the save. Dale Winchenbach (5I,2B,1HP,4H,2K) took the loss, and Isaac Durkee pitched one inning in relief (2H,2R).
After three scoreless innings, Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the 4th. McLain doubled, Mardy Alden singled, and Chris Chickering walked to load up the bases and push McLain to third. McLain scored on a wild pitch.
The Eagles added two runs in the bottom of the 5th. Stephen Quinlan was hit by a pitch and Gavin Joannides drew a walk, to set up an RBI single to Jeff Lamb and RBI sacrifice to McLain.
Medomak got one run back in the 6th on a solo homerun down the right field line from Dustin Osier. Lincoln plated two in the home half of the inning on a Reilly single and an Everett Martin two run shot to center field.
The Panthers threatened in the top of the 7th when Isaac Greenrose walked, Chris Benedict reached on a fielder’s choice and Shane Osier singled in Greenrose. McLain came on in relief for Reilly and struck out Alex Greenrose, then intentionally walked Winchenbach to load up the bases. The ploy worked, as the Eagles ended the threat and the game with a 6-4-3 double play.
Hitting for the Eagles were McLain with a double and single, Martin a homerun, and Lamb, Alden and Reilly a single each. Hitting for Medomak were Osier with a homerun and double, Durkee a double and Winchenbach and Shane Osier a single each.
With the win, Lincoln extends their win streak to four and improved their record to 10-3. The loss snaps a three game Panther winning streak and Medomak falls to 6-6.
Rockland took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd on a three run double to Dave Searle. Lincoln knotted the scored in the top of the 3rd. Quinlan singled, Joannides reached on an error and Lamb singled to set up RBI singles to McLain and Leeman and an RBI sacrifice to Reilly. Lincoln plated two runs in the 5th to win 5-3. Joannides doubled and scored on a Lamb single. Lamb moved over on a McLain single and scored on a Leeman sacrifice.
Hitting for the Eagles were Lamb, McLain and Leeman with two hits each, Joannides a double, and Alden and Quinlan a single each. Hitting for Rockland were Andy Murdy and Dave MaGuire with two each, Searle a double and Lucas Morrill, Joe Nensen and Little one each.
