Lincoln Academy boys’ basketball team beat Maranacook 60-53 in overtime in their KVAC home opener on Dec. 5.
Lincoln led the entire game, before Black Bear Devin Gerrity tied the score with 7.3 seconds to go to force OT. Ben Johnson gave Maranacook their first lead of the ball game at the foul line in OT. That would be all the Bears would score in the extra period. Lincoln made six of 10 at the line and Ben McLain scored off his own steal in overtime to seal the win.
Lincoln led by as much as seven in the first quarter, before Gerrity hit a three and Johnson scored off the glass to pull within two, 16-14 at the break. Lincoln went on a seven point run at the end of the half, on a McLain 3-pointer and Brandon Reilly hoop and two foul shots, to put Lincoln up by 10 at the break, 34-24. Johnson took over for the Bears in the third period, scoring 12 of his game high 32 points to pull Maranacook within four, 44-40.
Gerrity made it a two-point game early in the fourth, before McLain scored off his own steal. Miles Allen scored off the glass for the Bears and McLain hit a big three for the Eagles in an intense fourth period, that saw Gerrity knot the score on a feed from Sam Poulin to send the game to overtime.
Scoring for Lincoln were McLain 19 (3S), Pat Mullin 18, Reilly 13 (7R), Troy Carter 4, Ethan Wajer 4 and Andrew Feltis 2. Scoring for Maranacook were Johnson 32 (15R,3B), Devin Gerrity 9, David Clough 6, and Allen 6.
