Lincoln County Little League 11&12 baseball All-stars rallied from behind to defeat Waldo 13- 6 on July 14 to win the District 2 championship, and earn a berth in the State tournament.
Cedar Cannon collected the win (4I,5R,1K,1B,5H) and Cody Cleaveland the save (2I,0R,2K,1B,1H).
Lincoln County took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Cannon reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a Nick Prior double. Prior came home on a Myles Wotton single.
Waldo took advantage of two errors in the home half of the first to score four runs and take the lead. Noah Hurd reached on an error and scored on a passed ball. Gavin Young reached on an error and scored on a Curtis Littlefield ground out. Nate Ashley hit a two run homerun to right center field.
Lincoln got one run back in the second on a solo homerun to Nate Masters.
Waldo plated one run in the fourth to lead 5-3 when Cole Ellis doubled and scored on a Drew Bagley ground out.
Lincoln rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth to take a one run lead, 6-5. Cody Cleaveland tied the game with a lead-off homerun. Cannon beat out an infield hit for a single, Prior reached on an error to set up a RBI double to Wotton double. and RBI bunt single to Lucas Houghton.
Lincoln County batted through the order in the sixth to score seven runs and put the game away. Spencer Gamage hit a lead off single, and Cleaveland singled to set up a RBI single to Cannon. Prior was intentionally walked to load up the bases. Wotton hit a two run double. Houghton walked to load up the bases for a two run single to Micah Tomasello. Ben Sawyer sacrificed in Houghton and Tomasello scored on a throwing error on the play.
