Lincoln County 9-10 Little League softball All-stars defeated Waldoboro 12-1 in under an hour Sunday afternoon in Nobleboro to win the District 2 championship. With the win, Lincoln earns a berth in the State Little League tournament, to be played in Ellsworth. Their first game is Aug. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
Bailey Plourde went the distance in the win (3B, 1K, 2H). Shelbe Lane took the loss for Waldoboro (9H, 4B, 4K).
Lincoln jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning. Brie Wajer hit a lead off single and scored on a passed ball. Sophie Schumacher walked and scored on an error. Olivia York walked and Alyx York singled to set up an RBI sacrifice to Christine Hilton and RBI single to Kiley Poland. Samantha Cameron walked and scored on an error.
Lincoln added four runs in the 2nd. Wajer singled, Schumacher reached on a fielder’s choice, A. York drove in Wajer with a single, Schumacher scored on an error, Hilton walked, and Cameron drove in A. York and Hilton with an error.
Waldoboro spoiled the shutout with a run in the top of the 3rd. Megan Sykes singled, and scored when Mikayla Brazier reached on an error.
Lincoln scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd then shut down Waldoboro in the top of the 4th to end the game early by mercy ruling. Margarett Skiff and Wajer singled and both scored on a Schumacher single. Schumacher came home on an error.
Hitting for Lincoln County were Wajer with three singles, A. York and Poland two each, and Schumacher and Skiff one each. Hitting for Waldoboro were Olivia Wheeler and Megan Sykes, with a single each.
