Lincoln County 9-10 Little League softball all-stars won their opening game at the State tournament in Ellsworth on Aug.2, 13-10 over Scarborough. Bailey Plourde went the distance in the win (3B,3K,14H).
Scarborough took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st on an RBI single to Abbie Murrill. Scarborough’s pitching struggled in the bottom of the 1st inning with three pitchers taking the mound. Lincoln County pushed 13 batters to the plate to score eight runs.
Brie Wajer singled and scored on a Sophie Schumacher single, Olivia York walked to set up a two run triple to Alyx York. Christine Hilton and Plourde walked to load up the bases for an RBI walk to Lauren Hunt. Hilton scored on a passed ball. Margarett Skiff walked to load up the bases for an RBI walk to Wajer and Schumacher was hit by a pitch to score Hunt. Skiff stole home for the eighth run.
Scarborough got four runs back in the top of the 2nd on a three run double to Murrill.
Lincoln added a run in the 2nd on a walk to Plourde and RBI single to Hunt. They scored four in the 3rd on a single to O. York, walks to Hilton, Plourde and Brie Genthner (RBI) a two run single to Hunt, and walks to Wajer and Schumacher (RBI).
Scarborough scored two runs in the 4th and one in the 5th and 6th but were unable to catch Lincoln County.
Hitting for Lincoln were A. York with a double, Wajer, Schumacher, O.York and Hunt two singles each and Skiff one. Hitting for Scarborough were Murrill and Tori Hale with a double and single each, Ryan a double and Kaleigh Skoville, Chloe Gorey, Sarah Linchan, Mary Farnkoff, Lilly Volk, Griffin and Caitlin Merrill a single each.
Lincoln collected just two hits in the game, singles to A. York and Schumacher. A. York singled in Schumacher in the 3rd inning, and Schumacher scored the second run as well in the 5th inning when she drew a walk, stole to third and scored on a passed ball.
Oakes hit two singles and scored three runs for Herman, and Sydney Addessi had three hits.
