Lincoln Academy girls lacrosse have shown steady improvement all season and were rewarded for their efforts with three straight wins this week. The Lady Eagles defeated Mt. Valley 12-11 on Monday in their season finale to end the season with four wins.
“What a wonderful way to finish the season,” coach Mary Martha Collins said.
Katrina Belle scored four goals and had an assist, Ari Clifford and Molly Stackhouse added three goals each and Megan Chandler two goals and an assist. Stackhouse scored the winning goal. Cassie Smerdon and Stephanie Parise combined in net for 22 saves. They made some “fantastic saves in goal,” Collins said.
Mt. Valley led 2-1, before the Eagles took the lead for good before the half, then held off a physical Mt. Valley team for the win.
“They are such a great bunch of kids. It was a big game. We lost by one up there. They just out did themselves. They have improved their passing game and really come along with their transition game.
“It is one of the most congenial teams I’ve ever coached. The team gets along so well and have supported each other. It is just a wonderful group of girls. They are terrific. They came around and played some wonderful lacrosse the last couple of weeks,” Collins added.
“Both Mary Martha and I are excited to see the improvement in their transitional game,” coach Amanda Armstrong commented.
