Lincoln Academy girls basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Medomak Valley 58-50, in the Eagles’ nest in Newcastle, Dec. 18. The Lady Eagles dominated the boards
35-23, and sank their foul shots in the fourth quarter to pull out the come-from-behind win.
“I felt in the first half we played passive in the passing lanes. In the fourth we turned things around, and played with defensive pressure,” said Lincoln Academy
Coach Chris Feltis. “We talk all the time about making our lay-ups and foul shots. If we do, we will win. They are the two staples of basketball.”
The Eagles jumped out to a 16-12 first quarter lead after falling behind 9-2 early in the game. Maggie Cox made good at the line for a three point play and Hannah
Marks settled two three-pointers for Medomak. Lincoln out scored 16-3 in the final stretch of the first frame, led by eight points from Avae Traina, including two hoops off the
glass and going 4/6 at the foul line.
The Lady Panthers opened the second quarter with an 10-3 run to take the lead on back to back hoops from Hannah Heald. Medomak held on, and went into the halftime
break up 28-26. Medomak clung to a narrow lead in the third frame, as the two rivals exchanged hoops throughout the period. The Panthers went into the quarter break up two, 45-
43.
The Panthers struggled at the foul line early in the fourth, making just two of five shots, which opened the door for the Eagles. Danielle Pinkham crashed the glass
and Leslie Sandefur went three of four at the foul line to give Lincoln a one point lead. Brie Wajer and Pinkham scored and Alyx York settled two at the charity stripe to
complete an Eagle nine point run and give them a seven point lead with 1:50 to go.
Cox scored on a breakaway and drew the foul. She made good at the line to pull the Panthers within three with 1:36 to play. Medomak was forced to foul, with the
Eagles sinking four of six to maintain the lead.
Scoring for the Eagles were Wajer 18 (5A,6S), Traina 8 (13R), Pinkham 7 (7R,3A), Chloe Hallowell 6 (2-3s), Alyx York 6 (4R,2A, 2 charges), Sandefur 5 (4R), Taylor
Oliver 5, and Samantha Burke 3 (3R).
Scoring for Medomak were Hannah Marks 15 (3R,5A), Cox 14, Heald 11 (2R,3A), Sophie Cohen 6 (6R,2A), and Justice Barrows 4 (9R).

Lincoln Academy girls basketball team crushed Mt. View 53-21 Monday night in the Eagles’ nest in Newcastle. The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 17-3 first quarter lead with seven
players putting numbers on the board. Lincoln led 32-12 at the half and 45-17 at the end of three in the lopsided contest.
Thirteen Lady Eagles scored in the game, including Brie Wajer 11 (4R,3S,4A), Taylor Oliver 10, Leslie Sandefur 6 (5R,3S,2A), Danielle Pinkham 5 (5R,2A), Samantha
Burke 4 (4R), Kaitlyn Feltis 4, Avae Traina 2 (3R), Alyx York 2 (3R), Olivia York 2, Chloe Hallowell 2 (3R), Sophia Carbonneau 2, Dorothy Hodous 2, and Brianna Genthner 1
