Lincoln Academy girls’ soccer rebuilds after graduating five seniors and losing three other varsity players from last year’s squad that went 6-6-2 and qualified for the West B tournament at eighth seed. The Lady Eagles fell to York in the first round of the playoffs.
Although Lincoln has 13 upperclassmen on this year’s varsity squad, returning coach John Schumacher calls them a young team as far as experience goes. “They are playing well and we’re seeing improvement all the time. We’re just focusing on improving and being competitive,” Schumacher said.
Schumacher and assistant and JV coach Donovan York are happy with the numbers out this fall with 30. They will “swing a few up, about a half a dozen,” Schumacher said. Of his assistant coach York, Schumacher said, “He’s a great guy to have around and a big help.”
Playing varsity for the Lady Eagles are seniors Ashlee Doele, Brianna Carroll, Kelsea Miller, Sarah Komorowski, Nellie Shannon and Kate Jackson; juniors Sara Alley, Anna Budrow, Marni Jones, Sydney Plummer, Katie Moran, Katherine Bolster, Olivia Osbourne, and Emma Lazzari; and, sophomores Carly Erskine, Megan Peavey, and Christine Tonry.
Returning goalkeeper Lazzari is still recovering from knee surgery last winter, so will split net duties with Tonry.
“When you light a fire under them” they will play aggressively. “We’re going to be out there scrapping as always.” Schumacher added.
Playing on the JV squad (including swingers) are Emily Pierce, Hillary Baptist, Emily Wallace, Anhui Yost, Morgan Scavetta, Emily Whitaker, Lyric Dalton, Laura Otterbein, Sophie Danieri, Kassidy Demmons, Andrea Gemeinhardt, Kara Mullin, Marissa Pendleton, and Rebecca Hadic.
